Travel Insurance
Below is a letter which was sent to Brooke Quniteros after the last Headstart meeting on June 13:
Hi Brooke
Following the Headstart meeting on Saturday last, I wonder if my experiences are of any interest?
Prior to being diagnosed with cancer of the vocal chord my wife and I enjoyed two or three foreign trips in a year. After my treatment was completed, Dr Raul happy, and our life returning to some degree of normality we started to consider a trip abroad. I thought it prudent to inform my then current insurer of my problem, but I did not anticipate their reaction. Fortis [named and shamed] immediately cancelled my cover, refused to consider me as a future customer and would not offer any return of premium however small].
My cover with them had been on a multi trip, annual basis so I started to pursue other companies.
It soon became clear that annual, multi trip cover was a no no,and after a while the word Leper was how I felt I was being treated. Saga, a well respected company to our age group were prepared to insure but premiums started in excess of four figures for a single trip. Just when I was starting to feel beaten I noticed a small article in the Daily Mail, on this very subject, and bingo, Medicover, 08707353600, and I quote, a company specially created to fill a vital gap in the travel insurance market for those people who have suffered from serious illness or accident.
What's more their cost last year for my wife and I for 57 days in Malta was £203.00 Much more affordable as you can see.
I can assure you this is not a sales pitch and I am not employed by Medicover I promise Ha Ha
